What do I need to do before the Help Desk installs Outlook?
Each user is allocated 250 MB on the new server for e-mail, and your mailbox must be within these limits prior to your migration to Outlook. Please perform the following steps to minimize the amount of e-mail stored on the server:
- Delete e-mails that are no longer needed.
- Move e-mail from the server to your Personal Folders.
- Save file attachments to your hard drive instead of keeping them in your mailbox. After you have saved the attachment to your hard drive, delete or remove the file attachment from your mailbox.
We recommend you perform routine back-up procedures by backing up your personal folders to an external source (flash drive, CD-ROM, external hard drive).

When will I be moved to Outlook?
Your supervisor and the Help Desk will determine the schedule for converting you to Outlook, and someone on the Help Desk will contact you to make arrangements.

|
How long will the Help Desk need access to my computer?
The conversion will take approximately 2 to 4 hours, and your computer will not be available for use during this period. We will install Outlook and move your e-mail to the new Exchange server. If you are not yet connecting to our new Active Directory server, we will also configure your system for this at the same time.

|
What is the migration plan?
All new employees are being setup on Outlook immediately. Over the summer, the entire IT department, employees in the Administration building, and the Medical School were migrated to Outlook. The Help Desk will contact you when we are prepared to migrate your e-mail to Outlook.

How much RAM do I need for Outlook?
This depends on how many applications you are running at the same time and how much RAM those applications require. At least 1 GB of RAM is recommended, especially if you run several other applications.
