Bear Print is Mercer University's pay-for-print system that allows you to use your own computer or a Mercer computer lab workstation to print documents to any pay-for-print printer on campus. Using Bear Print, you can print your document and pick it up at your convenience!

Pricing

Bear Print printing charges are as follows:

  • Black and white prints (single-sided) - $0.10
  • Black and white prints (double-sided) - $0.20
  • Color prints (single-sided) - $0.35
  • Color prints (double-sided) - $0.70

Single-sided black and white prints from a public computer or without a Bear Card are $0.15 per page, cash only, and available only at select locations.


Using Bear Print via Software

Bear Print software allows you to add Bear Print printers to the list of printers on your personal computer. Follow the steps below to print using Bear Print software.

Requirements

Once the software is installed, follow the steps below for sending your print job to a printer.

  1. Open your document, select Print from the File menu or ctrl + P.
  2. Select one of the following printer options...and set any other print options.
  3. Select Print.
  4. Enter your Mercer University ID number (MUID) or five-digit Visitor Card number. This number will be used to retrieve your print job(s) at the release station.
  5. Visit any of Bear Print location to print your document. Your document will be available to print for 12 hours, after which it will be deleted.

Windows

Below are steps to install Bear Print software on a Windows computer.

  1. Download the Bear Print software:
    32bit for Windows
    64bit for Windows
  2. Run the downloaded file (Student_BearPrint_for x32 or Student_BearPrint_for x64)
  3. Select Install.
  4. Select Finish.

Mac OS X

Below are steps to install Bear Print software on a Mac computer.

  1. Download the Bear Print software:
    Mac OS X 10.15
    Mac OS X 10.11-10.14
    Mac OS X 10.7-10.10
    Mac OS X 10.6
    Mac OS 11 and later, we recommend Using Bear Print via Email
  2. Double click the BearPrintMac file located in your Downloads folder. If you are prompted to allow the software to run, click Open.
    Note: Some Macs block apps not downloaded from the App Store. If this happens, follow these instructions to allow the Bear Print app to run.
  3. Enter your Mac user name and password.
  4. Click Quit at the Installation Complete! notification.

Using Bear Print via Email

Bear Print email is an alternative to downloading and installing Bear Print software. It allows you to simply email your documents directly to a Bear Print printer. Follow the steps below to use Bear Print via email.

Requirements

  • Have a valid Mercer email address.
  • Have approved file format(s)
    • .pdf
    Note: Mercer IT highly recommends using .pdf file format. Click here for more information on how to create a .pdf file from your device.
  • Other approved file format(s)
    • .doc|.dot|.docx|.rtf
    • .xls|.xlt|.xlsx|.xltx|.xltm|.xlsm|.csv
    • .ppt|.pptx|.pptm|.pot|.pps|.potx|.ppsx
    • .vsd|.vss|.vst|.vdx|.vsx|.vtx|.vdw|.vsdx|.vstx|.vssx|.vsdm|.vssm|.vstm
    • .jpg|.jpeg|.png|.bmp|.gif|.tif|.tiff

  1. Begin by creating a new email message from a Mercer email account with NO SUBJECT. All text, over 200 characters, in the body of your email (including email signatures) will also be printed. 200 characters or less will be ignored.

  2. Attach the file you would like to print. BearPrint via email only reliably supports one attachment per email. The approved files are listed above. If you are attaching a file via the Outlook Web App, you must select "Browse this computer" to print the attachment. Otherwise, BearPrint will only be able to print the "Toby Bear shared a file with you" notice.

  3. Send the email to one of the four following print options:
  4. Finally, after receiving a confirmation email stating your document(s) are ready for release. Visit any Bear Print location to release your print(s).

Releasing Print Job from Printer

Once you have sent the print job(s) with either option listed above, visit any Bear Print location and follow the steps below to retrieve your print(s).

Requirements

  • Have a valid Bear Card. If your Bear Card expires before August 2022, you will need to visit the Auxiliary Services office to acquire an up to date card.
  • Have sufficient funds on your Bear Card. To load funds, visit a Bear Card kiosk or visit the Auxiliary Services website to make a deposit.
  1. Open your print queue by tapping your Bear Card (or mobile app) on the Bear Card reader.
  2. Touch OK on the Account Information screen.
  3. Select the document(s) that you need printed from the list and select Print or Print All.
  4. Once your documents have finished printing, select Log Out.
